How to Get a Commercial Registration (CR) in Bahrain: Step-by-Step 2026

Getting a Commercial Registration (CR) is the single step that makes your Bahrain company legally real. For most foreign investors registering a WLL company, the process runs 11 to 21 working days from start to CR certificate in hand. Here is exactly what that timeline looks like, step by step.

Step 1: NPRA Security Clearance

Before anything else, foreign shareholders and directors need security clearance from the National Passport and Residence Affairs (NPRA). This is a background check step, and clearance typically comes back within a few working days. This step cannot be skipped or run in parallel with later steps.

Step 2: Reserve Your Trade Name on Sijilat

Once cleared, you reserve your company name through the Ministry of Industry and Commerce’s Sijilat portal. Submit three name options in order of preference. The reservation costs BHD 50 and stays valid for 60 days.

Step 3: Confirm a Municipality-Verified Address

Your CR needs a registered office address that passes municipality verification. An unverifiable address is one of the most common causes of application delays.

Step 4: Draft and Notarise the Deed of Association

The Memorandum and Articles of Association defines your company’s ownership and governance rules. Shareholders must appear before a notary public unless a Power of Attorney authorises a representative to sign on their behalf.

Step 5: Open a Corporate Bank Account

Opening a corporate bank account is now mandatory before the CR certificate is issued, not after. Once documentation is ready, account opening typically takes 2 to 3 working days, generating the Capital Deposit Certificate needed for final submission.

Step 6: Submit to MOIC for Final Approval

With your notarised Deed of Association and Capital Deposit Certificate ready, the application goes to MOIC. Sijilat reviews now typically complete within 2 to 3 business days for straightforward applications.

Step 7: Receive Your CR Certificate

Once approved, your Commercial Registration is issued as your company’s official legal identifier. From here you can apply for staff visas through LMRA and register for VAT if required.

Where Applications Usually Stall

  • Unverifiable office address – the most common delay
  • Missing Power of Attorney for absent shareholders
  • Wrong activity code selection triggering resubmission
  • Capital deposit mismatches between bank certificate and MOA
